Twin Pine Farms History

A multi-generational legacy.

The Farm

In 1952, Robert and Jeannine Ilyes bought a 30-acre farm in Seven Valleys, Pennsylvania. Two pine trees stood beside the farmhouse—giving rise to the name Twin Pine Farm. They began raising fruits, vegetables, and cattle. After a low return at a livestock auction, Robert chose to butcher his own beef in the farmhouse basement—committing to quality from the start. That same year, the family opened a stand at York’s Central Market House. Their first day ended with a $7 profit—and a $4 parking ticket. A humble beginning to what would become a proud family tradition.

Today, Twin Pine Farm manages 2,100 acres—500 owned and 1,600 rented—and raises a 175-head cow/calf herd fed with non-GMO, hormone-free feed. Their locally butchered beef and farm-grown vegetables, including sweet corn and tomatoes, are sold fresh at the Country Store. They also grow grains, offer hay and straw, and provide custom farming services, with wholesale options available.

The Butcher Shop

In 1965, Robert Ilyes built a dedicated butcher shop, which soon became a USDA-inspected facility—still in use today. As the farm grew, so did the family’s commitment. Over the years, Robert acquired additional land, and Twin Pine now owns approximately 500 acres. In 1993, the next generation stepped in as Robert Jr. and Dennis joined the business full-time, continuing the family’s tradition of hands-on quality and care.

The Country Store

In the spring of 2000, Twin Pine Farm began building a new country store just south of York New Salem. Two years later, on June 8, 2002, the family proudly celebrated 50 years in business at the new location. Just weeks after the celebration, founder Robert Sr. passed away on June 29, 2002. Today, the farm and store are run by Dennis and Neta Ilyes, who continue to uphold the values of hard work, quality, and family tradition across every acre and every product.
